The brainchild of multi-instrumentalist and artist Spencer Marsh, Tao of Lucy, is an experimental rock project out of Northwest Arkansas. Four friends with a focus on delivering an engaging artistic experience and driven by their mutual love for old fantasy operas, freely push the boundaries of bizarre concepts and absurd story telling.
Isle of Lucy, the second installment to their concept story, is a strange soundscape that chronicles the adventures of some of the more colorful children of Saturn through a database of collective genetic memories. Full of cautionary tales, sea shanties, and dark adventures throughout time. Mostly told from the perspective of Lucille Ball, the oldest of the Immortal Three, and a quirky, droid crew member as they study the antics of several distant, gifted cousins. Assisted by Old Atlantum, the sentient AI system aboard The Loxodonta, Lucille prepares for what may come.
In Lieu is part one of the Lucy mythos. A raw, rock-fueled trip through shifting sounds and driving riffery, entwined with swells of otherworldly sounds. Telling the legend of twin brothers, Saturn and Sunday, and their experience and emotions during the time of mankind's birth. Going in depth into the dueling beliefs of two very powerful and stubborn god-like beings in a war with their affection for one another coupled with their unyielding disdain for each other's ideologies. A dark, and sometimes very sad, journey through the minds and hearts of an ancient magical bloodline descended directly from Lucy herself.
Reviews:
“Tao of Lucy utilizes the fantastic in combination with psychedelic doom metal characteristics within their music. At first listen, I felt as if Lynard Skynard was put to slow motion and then drowned in the aesthetics of Pink Floyd, The Doors and Led Zeppelin. Their lyric style at the core is blues rock meshed with the narratives of fantasy novels. I was immediately drawn to the lead singer’s voice due to their deep tone and blunt vocal execution. The most repetitive features throughout the EP are the bass line and the lead guitar. On each track, there is a central motif monotonously on repeat as if the chords are being banged into the listener’s brain to ensure the melody is never forgotten. Some of the guitar riffs incorporated into a few of the tracks often mimic a bluesy sound. This group definitely focuses on the distorted, but jarring instrumental mind fuck experience more than rely on lyrics to keep listeners engaged. They want to give the audience an experience that surpasses the normal music show, but at the same time lets them appreciate the music.”
